Dufresne's Story

I did not go to the auction looking to buy a horse. At that point in my life I didn't know if I would have a home for the next month, and my marriage was going poorly at best. But in this particular moment, nothing was more important than helping set this horse on a new path in life.

I paid my $50 in the auction office, plus tax, and bought a $7 plastic halter. The clerks in the office looked at me a little funny and said, "Oh, YOU'RE the one who bought that colt. You'd better be careful. He's out to kill someone."

I wasn't worried.

Evolution Is Worth It

Change is always an evolution. Even if the circumstances of change seem to be going backwards, the awareness that they seem to be going backwards informs the next movement forwards. It really is impossible to not be evolving, to not be changing.

Worry Like A Bird

I live in a world so bent on conformity that you can pick out the rebels by their common clothes and music. In this state of conformity, sharing from the heart can be received as antisocial. It’s weird. Social graces can invite both hiding and/or total exposure.

It’s weird to offer connection and have others give you the stink-eye for knocking them off-track. Conformity isn’t supporting freedom of expression.

How Much Human Is In A Horse?

This afternoon I'll go play with the horses, awareness of one another and the gates. I'll give them each the space to do what they always do, and at the same time, I'll offer my peripheral awareness of their habitual behaviors without requiring them to change.

The outcomes can go really any direction, and when that's the case, it's the perfect time to explore what I would love to create in this atmosphere. What sense feels rich and nourishing here? What direction invites everyone to feel and live without having to defend their space or push another out of the way? What would you want to create?

Being The First

Although it’s not a contest, there is always one who will be first among a soul group in retrieving all aspects of their soul. No matter what the outer behaviors might be of others around that one, the entire soul group is cheering for the one who goes first. At the heart, they all celebrate the one who neutralizes the iron shavings and integrates the fragments that were drawn at any time away from the wholeness. This one, whole and integrated, transcends the repetitive patterns of the soul group and begins to create a new way of being, unattached to repetitive patterns.

In other words, individuals may evolve beyond the repetitive interactions based on “who did what to whom.” When one does transcend beyond the group, everyone benefits. There is always one who is first to ascend.

I wish things were different...

Our compassion for humanity and animals can be used as a weapon of activism. Or it can be used with action as an erosive force that generates new roads. I wish things were different, and sometimes I still have judgments and emotions about what I see and experience. I also receive the gift of awareness that the emotions are guideposts that invite me to either wave my machete and try to prove a point, or instead look for where the water of compassion might flow with grace, purify itself further and widen the path for others to see, if they wish.

Life As Motivation

Life does not require you to have a particular profession or expression. The closer your actions resemble the love in your heart, you get to watch life happen for you in ways you would never see if you were simply escaping death.

How Easy It Is To Breathe

The days immediately after surgery, as you might imagine, my nose was very swollen. My whole face was swollen!. It was 24 hours before I looked in the mirror, partially because I was distracted by walking to and from the toilet and partially because it just didn't even cross my mind. When I finally did look in the mirror, for real I had a real look, I tuned in immediately to the vision of the new nose, all complete...and my only thought was, "This is going to be so pretty!"

One At A Time

I'm not trying to create peace here. What I'm doing is recognizing with great clarity the difference between the presence of conflict and the presence of harmony. And then, I open myself to move in the direction of harmony.

Isolating Frequencies

Our five big physical senses have been taught in a way that dominates our awareness. You have the ability to feel and sense far more. Often the “more” is lumped into one big drawer called intuition or “sixth sense”. There is so much more.

Let Fear Be What It Is

Courage to have a relationship with sensations of fear (and other things) may take a lot of deep breaths at first. The mind is accustomed to reacting when the body provides sensations. Seeing fear for what it is though lets the mind start to get clear about whether the sensations really require action or if it would beneficial to simply bring awareness to the sensations.

Feel The Absence Of Fault

How does it feel to no longer buy into the suggestion that you are broken? What does the body feel like to explore the sensations of not making other people's opinions "my fault"?

Playing with the sensory realms is all about expanding your heart through your whole body.

Living with kindness for ourselves, with kindness for our own mind, with kindness for the way I've walked in the world is still pretty uncommon. Yet it is natural!

This is a brief walk through sensing a way of being that we may never have felt before, a level of compassion that honors the difficulties we may have been through. Honoring our own journey in this way opens the door to feel free from the self-judgments that we've been conditioned to place above our wellness.

Clear Your Own Atmosphere

Giant meteor crashes, super-volcano eruptions that filled the atmosphere with nitrogen, ice ages that created a planetary hypothermia that meant the end of most surface life… Is there anything we can do to this planet that exceeds what it has already recovered from in its past?

Is fighting for the planet the most effective perspective? Or does fighting, even toward a goal of conservation, just create more to recover from?

Are we really worried about the planet or are we just trying to get our own attention?

Consciousness Creates

Many have walked the planet as masters of their awareness and energy, deliberately working at the highest levels of consciousness to remedy and adjust what the miscreants put into place for their own grandeur. These expansive beings have lived and worked largely unacknowledged. Some have worked within the familiar societal systems, some sequestered. I’m sharing this to remind you that humanity has your back.

Today the consciousness of humanity is creating for the wellness of the planet on large scales. It’s main-stream, although you might have to look around to recognize it. Water Protectors, renewable energy, dissolving of gender barriers, the suggestion that war is no longer necessary…all of these are evidence of creation for the wellness of all. Recognition only expands and accelerates the wellness.

Courage

It's amazing how many messages are now shared for not being hard on one's self! Be kind to yourself. What a beautiful beginning.

The thing is, coming from an environment of subconscious punishments, how can you know what being kind in your own motivation feels like? How does it feel to act from kindness, even if that action is so familiar it usually runs on auto-pilot?

Mind, I Got Your Back

The mind is trying to help you survive. In a society where physical survival is well-in-hand with access to food, water and shelter, the concept of survival becomes a bit more creative. Befriending the mind without denying its concerns is as simple as noticing when it's the mental programs and judgments behind the wheel. Why punish a mind that's just trying to survive? Can you honor it for what it's trying to do without doing everything it suggests?

Creating Beyond The Mind

The mind can absolutely expand upon that beauty and put focus on the next creation, the next house, the next car or relationship. Yet, it is still the heart emanating, always connected with the Universe that provides the true nourishment for any ideal to come into form.
